The Covenant Day Lions had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They secured a 52-48 W over Concord Academy.
Leading Covenant Day to victory were Tyree White and Chris Rivens. White scored 13 points, while Rivens scored 14 points along with six rebounds. Elijah Green was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sean Birmingham, who scored 11 points. The match was Birmingham's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Howard, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Concord Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Covenant Day has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Concord Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-8.
Covenant Day will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Gaffney at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Gaffney is ranked 66th in South Carolina, while Covenant Day is ranked 63rd in North Carolina). Concord Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Hopewell at 3:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Hopewell has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 593 points over their last eight contests.
