On Thursday, the West Warwick Wizards faced the Chariho Chargers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. West Warwick suffered a tough 60-39 defeat at the hands of Chariho. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss West Warwick has suffered against Chariho since January 19, 2016.
When it comes to explaining why West Warwick lost, one person who can't be blamed is Liz Gresin. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Calla Davide, who scored ten points.
Chariho's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emily Ballard, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jules White, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
West Warwick's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Chariho, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
West Warwick will be playing in front of their home fans against Cumberland at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Rhode Island (Cumberland is ranked 21st, while West Warwick is ranked 16th). As for Chariho, they will head out on the road to take on Prout at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
