Softball Recap: Cypress Lake Has No Trouble Against Gateway

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bonita Springs, Cypress Lake was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Gateway Eagles with a sharp 21-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won six matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

Audrina Westland made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Westland was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Cypress Lake let Kelley Kenner and Maisy Vogel run wild. Kenner went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Vogel went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Kenner has hit this season. Baylee Spano was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Cypress Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Cypress Lake's record is now 7-13. As for Gateway, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cypress Lake will welcome Gulf Coast at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Sharks have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Gateway, they will be playing at home against Island Coast at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
