Basketball Recap: Thornton Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

Thornton had won four straight home games and Clayton Jones did his part to make it five on Thursday. The Thornton Trojans snuck past the Aurora Central Trojans with a 40-35 victory thanks in part to Jones, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Thornton's points.

Alex Sandovol was another key player, putting up nine points along with six boards and four steals. That's the most rebounds he has posted since back in February of 2024.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alejandro (Alex) Flores, who posted 15 points. Flores has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Gabou (Ben) Camara, who had four points in addition to ten boards and eight blocks.

Thornton is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Aurora Central, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-8.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Skyview the next time they take the court. Thornton will head out to face Skyview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Aurora Central will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th.
