Gibbs is 9-1 against Anderson County since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will host the Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Gibbs sitting on seven straight victories and Anderson County on four.
Six must be Gibbs' lucky number: they beat Lakeway Christian Academy with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Eagles never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Malyiah Smith, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Shelby Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Gibbs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in nine consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Anderson County hadn't done well against Clinton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Mavericks came out on top against the Dragons by a score of 9-6.
Anderson County got a massive performance out of Kaycee Baldwin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, one run, and one RBI. That's the most triples Baldwin has posted since back in March of 2024. Kara Waddell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Anderson County's victory bumped their record up to 18-9. As for Gibbs, their win bumped their record up to 22-2.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gibbs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .430. However, it's not like Anderson County struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gibbs took their victory against Anderson County in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mavericks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
