The Maranatha Minutemen have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to Heritage Christian at home by a decisive 63-48 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, Maranatha can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Heritage Christian is ranked 44th).
Several Minutemen players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zain Mahmood, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Khatchikian, who scored seven points along with nine assists and five rebounds.
Maranatha's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-8. As for Heritage Christian, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-8.
Maranatha will head out on the road to challenge King/Drew at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. King/Drew will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Heritage Christian will take on Village Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Village Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 400 points over their last five matches.
