Kathryn Kram was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cori Figgs was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Isabella Rios was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
Cy-Fair always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northbrook only posted an OBP of .000.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lamar, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Houston Math Science & Tech with a sharp 15-0 victory on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Texans considering their one-run performance the game before.
Like Cy-Fair, Lamar also got a great game from a two-way player: Leila Ayarzagoitia. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ayarzagoitia was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Lamar got a massive performance out of Laura Ramirez, who fired off two home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Kate Perez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs.
Cy-Fair pushed their record up to 19-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Lamar, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-11 record.
Lamar's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Cy-Fair has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Lamar, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 strikeouts. Will Cy-Fair keep running through batters, or will the Texans buck the trend?
Cy-Fair took their victory against Lamar when the teams last played back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 14-1 score. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Texans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
