1A Tri-Peaks recap November 5, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 1A Tri-Peaks this week, Buena Vista beat Front Range Christian 48-12. The victory was the 10th in a row for the Demons.
Rye fell to Yuma 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Trey Zupancic was a bright spot for the Thunderbolts, as he ran for 82 yards in the defeat.
Buena Vista's dynamic duo of Keegan Wentz and Zakk James proved to be unstoppable against the Falcons, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wentz threw for 192 yards and 3 touchdowns and James had 85 yards receiving. Trevor Close helped Buena Vista's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 84 yards.
He was 9-11 with 0 interceptions.
Andy McFarland was a key player and the best on defense this week as Matt Flavin's team defeated Front Range Christian. The 5-foot-8 senior recorded 1 fumble.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Ellicott's JaVonte' Stewart and Jacob Crist have proven to be a lethal combination. Stewart has thrown for 1,315 yards this season, while Crist has 31 catches for 774 yards. Sean Daniels from Rye leads the league in rushing with 1,357 yards.
TJ Stockton has rushed for 913 yards on 137 carries so far this year.
The Demons led the league in scoring this week by notching 48 points on the Falcons. Wentz ran for 70 yards during the win.
