The Hyde Park Thunderbirds can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent contest on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 69-36 win over Simeon at home. The team ran away with 65 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the victory.
Hyde Park had a senior duo take command as Mia Gaines dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 16 rebounds, and ten blocks and Jazmyne Bynum scored 24 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Gaines is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Kiera Wilson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Simeon lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Janiya Pillow, who scored 11 points along with two steals. Pillow has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabryelle Howard, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Simeon struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Hyde Park racked up 17 assists.
The win makes it two in a row for Hyde Park and bumps their season record up to 13-5. As for Simeon, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Hyde Park will head out on the road to take on Trinity at 8:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Simeon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kelly at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Kelly focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 52 on Wednesday.
