Basketball Recap: Ethan Kihnel Key Part of a Team Effort in Swamp Owls Win

After losing to Cohen the last time they met, Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy Swamp Owls took down the Cohen Green Hornets 60-45 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Swamp Owls.

Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Kihnel, who posted 17 points in addition to six boards and four steals. What's more, Kihnel also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nathan Goodwin, who put up 14 points.

Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Cohen, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-13.

Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy and Cohen could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Louisiana Rankings. Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (ranked 304th) will meet Riverdale (ranked 114th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Cohen (ranked 313th) will meet Destrehan (ranked 85th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
