Hightstown extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 0-3-1. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-11 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ewing Blue Devils. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Hayden Bustos was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Hayley Bustos, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
As for Ewing, their win bumped their record up to 2-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Ewing's side, Morgan Dwyer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Dwyer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sydney Mahan, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Sophia Ordini was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Coming up, Hightstown will take on Notre Dame at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The contest will give the Rams their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Ewing, they will square off against South Hunterdon at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
