After a string of five wins, the Constitution Generals's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 83-72 to Abraham Lincoln. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Constitution came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Abraham Lincoln is ranked 232nd).
Defeat or not, Constitution got some senior leadership from Perry Fields and Kyree Latimer. Fields scored 26 points along with seven blocks and four steals, while Latimer. scored 29 points along with eight rebounds. That was a full 40.3% of Constitution's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Amir Speights, who scored eight points along with three blocks and two steals.
Malachi Montgomery was his usual excellent self, scoring 35 points for Abraham Lincoln. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Montgomery has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Samair Peterson, who scored 17 points.
Constitution's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-5. As for Abraham Lincoln, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Constitution will take on Methacton at 2:35 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Methacton's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games. As for Abraham Lincoln, they will be playing at home against John Bartram at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
