The Steeleville Warriors will venture away from home to take on the Elverado Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Steeleville took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand New Athens a 12-0 shutout. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Corinne Mueller was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Steeleville got a big performance out of Zoey Wolf, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base was Wolf's first of the season. Reagan Moore was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Elverado waltzed into their game last Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Knights as they made off with a 14-0 win. Considering the Falcons have won four contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Steeleville, Elverado also got a great game from a two-way player: Maci Cararway. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Cararway was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mylee Roberts was a standout: she fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maggie Elson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Elverado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matches.
Elverado's record now sits at 4-1. As for Steeleville, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Steeleville suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Elverado in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
