The Canon City Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 66-45 defeat at the hands of Mesa Ridge. Canon City has struggled against the Grizzlies recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Canon City still got an impressive performance from Wyatt Turner, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Turner pulled down eight or more rebounds. Brehner Jackson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Leading Mesa Ridge to victory were Tevin Riehl and Bryce Riehl. Riehl scored 16 points along with seven assists and five steals, while Riehl dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Riehl is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed five or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zander Iwanski, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Canon City has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Mesa Ridge, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-2.
Canon City will stay at home for another game and welcome the Gladiators at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Widefield is ranked 266th, while the Tigers are ranked 255th). As for Mesa Ridge, they will head out on the road to square off against the Bears at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Palmer Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Thursday.
