On the hitting side, Cal Gates made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Bedford North Lawrence is 8-1 when Gates posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mitchell, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with a 7-4 win over Loogootee on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bluejackets as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.
Gavin Martin made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dason Kerr, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Conner Teague, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Mitchell's record now sits at 6-12. As for Bedford North Lawrence, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.
Mitchell's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bedford North Lawrence hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. It's a different story for Mitchell, though, as they've only averaged .228. Will they be able to contain Bedford North Lawrence's hitters?
Bedford North Lawrence was able to grind out a solid win over Mitchell when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 5-1.
