The Milby Buffs typically have all the answers at home, but on Saturday the Madison Marlins proved too difficult a challenge. Madison blew past Milby 95-49 on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-19.
Madison found their leader in underclassman Anthony Avalos, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. The match was Avalos' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marquez Hubbard-Chenault, who scored 15 points along with 7 assists and 5 rebounds.
Milby's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Carrizalez, who scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds. Carrizalez scored a full 26.5% of Milby's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Cantu, who scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Madison and bumps their season record up to 6-4. As for Milby, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Madison will look to defend their home court on Friday against Waltrip at 7:30 p.m. Waltrip is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Milby, they will head out on the road to face off against Mickey Leland College Preparatory Academy for Young Men at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
