The Union Yellowjackets will head out on the road to square off against the Lake Hornets at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Union is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Union is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Philadelphia on Thursday. They fell just short of the Tornadoes by a score of 2-1. The Yellowjackets' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Union saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kooper Fultz, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Lake got the win against Scott Central on Friday by a conclusive 16-2. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won 16 matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Wes Nester made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Nester was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
In other batting news, Trey Gray was a standout: he scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Kasen Tune was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
The victory made it two in a row for Lake and bumps their season record up to 19-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Union, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Union has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Union suffered a grim 16-3 defeat to Lake in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
