The Wesson Cobras pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a tough 83-59 defeat at the hands of Richland. While losing is never fun, Wesson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while Richland is ranked 133rd).
Despite the loss, Wesson still got an impressive performance from Austin Johnson, who scored 23 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Johnson scored a full 39% of Wesson's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Wesson bumped their record down to 0-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Richland, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-4.
Wesson will head out on the road to face off against Salem at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Salem comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Richland, they will be playing at home against Forest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
