Baseball Recap: Arlington Has No Trouble Against Buena Vista

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Arlington brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They blew past the Buena Vista Bison 14-4 on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Bison: they've now won three in a row.

Wes Monke made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-5. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other batting news, Arlington got a massive performance out of Tim Halley, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave Halley a new career-high in RBI (four). Another player making a difference was Peyton Marfisi, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Arlington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win got Arlington back to even at 5-5. As for Buena Vista, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-12.

Coming up, Arlington will host Raymond Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Buena Vista, they will venture away from home to square off against Elkhorn South at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bison's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Storm have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
