The Purnell Swett Rams's five-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They snuck past Douglas Byrd with a 40-34 win. The victory was just what Purnell Swett needed coming off of a 53-32 defeat in their prior game.
Purnell Swett got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayda Dial out in front who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Niyah Locklear was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 11 rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Douglas Byrd still got an impressive performance from Jazmine Burns, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Burns has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jamiyah Carroll, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and six steals.
Purnell Swett's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Douglas Byrd, they dropped their record down to 2-11 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home.
Purnell Swett will take on Pine Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Douglas Byrd, they will head out on the road to square off against Cape Fear at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cape Fear presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Douglas Byrd in North Carolina (Cape Fear is ranked 24th, while Douglas Byrd is ranked 496th).
