Kadyn Sanchez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, Sophia Romero was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Anabella Jimenez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Foothill Tech came out on top against Bishop Diego on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Dragons never let the Cardinals get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won three games by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Bishop Diego's batters probably weren't too happy with Mackenzie Warren, who pitched a no hitter and racked up six Ks (she gave up zero walks). Kyra Bouchard came in to relieve Warren and was airtight, giving up no runs, hits or walks in her an inning pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lilliana Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Zoey Watkins, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Foothill Tech was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Santa Clara's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Foothill Tech, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Santa Clara hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .389. However, it's not like Foothill Tech struggles in that department as they've averaged .344. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Santa Clara was able to grind out a solid win over Foothill Tech in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
