Daniel Yuzos made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Ayden Esquero was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Tularosa: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Deon Bigas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Tularosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .685. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hatch Valley only posted an OBP of .489.
As for Hatch Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games.
On Hatch Valley's side, NATHAN RUIZ and MIGUEL MARQUEZ stepped up to the plate in a big way. RUIZ went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while MARQUEZ went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was XAVIER GRACIA, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tularosa will take on Socorro at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.42 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hatch Valley, they will face off against Mesilla Valley Christian School at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The SonBlazers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
