The Girard Indians are taking a road trip to challenge the LaBrae Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Girard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Girard came up short against Liberty and fell 9-5.
Kyra Bell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but LaBrae ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Crestview 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted against the Rebels since May 14, 2021.
Riley Rowe made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Rowe was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shelby Bragg, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Vada Allen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
LaBrae's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 20-6. As for Girard, they dropped their record down to 12-13 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Girard hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like LaBrae struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Girard beat LaBrae 9-6 when the teams last played last Wednesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
