Baseball Recap: Newberg Has No Trouble Against Century

Newberg was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Century on Monday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 6-0 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Not much got past Parker Sellner, who gave up just six hits to keep Century off the board. Sellner also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Newberg is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Carter Hawes and Cole Thomas did most of the damage at the plate: Hawes went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Thomas went 2-for-3 with two runs. Newberg is undefeated when Thomas posts two or more runs, but 7-11 otherwise.

The victory snapped Newberg's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 13-11 record. As for Century, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season.

Newberg will have a chance to go back-to-back against Century: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
