McDaniel and Cleveland are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2023, but likely not for long. The Mountain Lions will welcome the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. McDaniel will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
McDaniel proved they can win big on Friday (they won by six) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Ida B. Wells 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mountain Lions have posted since March 24th.
Amira Edwards was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. Edwards was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylie Schmitz, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Tiffany Jordan was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Cleveland unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Grant by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Warriors have suffered against the Generals since May 6, 2024.
Like McDaniel, Cleveland also got a great game from a two-way player: Jillian Lee. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Lee has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Kailen Steffek was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
McDaniel's win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Cleveland, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-6.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. McDaniel hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Cleveland struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
McDaniel was able to grind out a solid victory over Cleveland in their previous matchup two weeks ago, winning 14-9. Do the Mountain Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
