The Avon Eagles will head out to square off against the Hoover Vikings at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Avon's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Hoover's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Avon's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Keystone 1-0. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Not much got past Luke Holtzman, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Keystone off the board. Holtzman also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Avon is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-7 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Avon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Cain, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hoover, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over Field on Friday.
Evan Fuller looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ryan Cervenak, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Ryan Wilkinson also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Hoover was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Avon's record now sits at 6-8. As for Hoover, their record is now 10-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Avon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hoover struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Avon couldn't quite finish off Hoover in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
