Brandan Basil and Chris Caron provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Old Saybrook-Westbrook. The connection was good for 69 yards, the longest such play in Pequot - Sassacus this season.
Haddam-Killingworth was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 10th to seventh in the league. Earlier in the week, the Cougars triumphed over Lewis Mills 42-7.
North Branford's dynamic duo of Basil and Caron proved tough for the Rams to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Basil threw for 288 yards and six touchdowns and Caron had 183 yards receiving. Joe Delucia helped North Branford's passing attack out by catching three balls for 54 yards.
Derrick Villard was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 214 yards as Cromwell beat Old Saybrook-Westbrook. Mavric Pelletier also contributed to the rushing game with 42 yards on the ground.
North Branford's Basil and Caron have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Pequot - Sassacus in both passing and receiving yards. Basil has thrown for 1004 yards this season, while Caron, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 21 catches for 465 yards. The Panthers' Villard leads the league in rushing yards with 979.
Villard of the Cromwell is only 21 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Rudy Bagos' team takes on Coginchaug Regional. As it stands, the Rams are in sixth, while the Blue Devils are in fourth.
Hyde Leadership extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Valley Regional/Old Lyme, 28-13. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Howling Wolves.
