Goochland hasn't had much luck against Louisa County recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Bulldogs will welcome the Lions at 6:30 p.m. Goochland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Goochland didn't have quite enough to beat Fluvanna County and fell 4-3. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Riley McCain was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She pitched 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. McCain was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kyndall Shapiro was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Louisa County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Albemarle a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Lily Ruckle looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emmaline Moore, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Laci Garrett, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Louisa County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Albemarle only posted a batting average of .111.
Louisa County's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Goochland, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
Goochland might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Louisa County in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
