Basketball Recap: Highland Takes a Loss

Highland was the 41-38 winner over Lowell when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Highland Trojans lost 53-30 to the Lowell Red Devils on Saturday. The match marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Highland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Justin Slaven posted 13 points and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for Slaven.

Braydon Cox was nothing short of spectacular for Lowell: he went 6 of 10 on his way to 18 points. Cox is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ezra Elenbaum, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points.

Highland is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-5. As for Lowell, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland will square off against Munster at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Highland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season. As for Lowell, they will take on Merrillville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lowell is facing Merrillville at the right time seeing as Merrillville is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
