Softball Recap: Hillsboro Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Hillsboro won the last time they faced Life Waxahachie and things went their way on Friday too. Everything went the Hillsboro Eagles' way against the Life Waxahachie Mustangs as the Hillsboro Eagles made off with a 19-3 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Izzy Hernandez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, Olivia Cornelius- Mathis was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Cloe Creech also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Hillsboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .706. They are 7-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Hillsboro's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Life Waxahachie, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

When Hillsboro and Life Waxahachie next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Hillsboro will take on Venus and their three-game winning streak at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hillsboro is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season. Similarly, Life Waxahachie will try to stop Godley's four-game winning streak when they meet at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
