It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Grafton Clippers ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 61-60 win over Bruton. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brandon Freeman, who scored 18 points along with five assists and two steals. Freeman is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. Khamani Phillips was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.
The win (which was Grafton's third in a row) raised their record to 12-2. As for Bruton, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grafton will take on Tabb at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Tabb is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Bruton, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against New Kent at 7:00 p.m. New Kent is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
