The Las Animas Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Hoehne Farmers at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Las Animas has five straight victories, Hoehne has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Las Animas was able to grind out a solid win over Rocky Ford, taking the game 13-9.
Kree Wallace made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wallace was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Las Animas let Braydon Ortiz and Travis Arrona run wild. Ortiz went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Arrona went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Arrona a new career-high. Damien Baca was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Las Animas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rocky Ford only posted a batting average of .276.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Hoehne's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 17-0 to Fowler, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Las Animas pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Hoehne, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Las Animas has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .487. However, it's not like Hoehne struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Las Animas took their victory against Hoehne in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 8-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
