The Shorewood Stormrays will square off against the Meadowdale Mavericks at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Shorewood had taken Edmonds-Woodway down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Stormrays fell 5-1 to the Warriors. The Stormrays have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ellie Van Horn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Maddie Schilperoort was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Meadowdale). They blew past Shorecrest 10-3 on Monday. Considering the Mavericks have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Olivia Feistel made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaeden Sajec, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Peyton Fry, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Meadowdale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Meadowdale's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Shorewood, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
Meadowdale's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Shorewood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Meadowdale, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Shorewood keep running through batters, or will the Mavericks buck the trend?
Shorewood might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Meadowdale in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Stormrays have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
