5A Region III District 22 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Shane McCarley and Kyrion Parker provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Alvin. The connection went for 95 yards, the longest such play in 5A Region III District 22 this season.
South Houston was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Trojans defeated Pasadena 47-27.
Manvel's dynamic duo of McCarley and Parker proved tough for the Yellowjackets to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. McCarley threw for 472 yards and seven touchdowns and Parker had 192 yards receiving. Reggie Hemphill helped Manvel's passing attack out by catching three balls for 123 yards.
Reggie Turner was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 212 yards as Pasadena Memorial bested Alvin. Teammate Jordan Wyatt added to the ground attack by rushing for 75 yards.
Manvel's McCarley and Parker have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region III District 22 in both passing and receiving yards. McCarley has thrown for 1670 yards this season, while Parker, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 25 catches for 597 yards. The Mavericks' Turner leads the league in rushing yards with 817.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Pearland takes on Trey Herrmann's team. As it stands, the Oilers are in first, while the Yellowjackets are in seventh.
Pasadena Memorial moved up to 240 from 293 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Chris Quillian's team was able to make the jump by beating Dobie 32-7.
