Baseball Recap: Fletcher Wins Going Away Against Grandfield

It was a proper cat-fight when Fletcher faced off against Grandfield on Thursday. The Wildcats blew past the Bearcats 13-2. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won ten contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Rayce Stoll was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fletcher is 4-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Stoll was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Elijah Cagle was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted over his last seven matches. Seth Bradberry was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

Fletcher always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Fletcher and bumps their season record up to 12-10. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Grandfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Fletcher wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 5-0 loss against Sterling on the 7th. As for Grandfield, they are taking a road trip to square off against Cyril at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.3 runs per game on average), something the Bearcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
