Everything went their way against the La Vega Pirates on Friday as the University Trojans made off with a 24-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
AJ Hernandez looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
At the plate, University got a massive performance out of Armando Cervantez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave Cervantez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Galvan, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
University always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .730. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .517 or higher in four consecutive contests.
University has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. La Vega dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
