Basketball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Martin County's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

If Perquimans wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Martin County, they should've done a better job of containing Jordan Matthewson. Everything went the Martin County Gators' way against the Perquimans Pirates on Friday as the Martin County Gators made off with a 61-40 victory thanks to Matthewson, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points.

Kel'Javious Moore was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 22 boards. Those 22 rebounds gave him a new career-high.

When it comes to explaining why Perquimans lost, don't look at Xavier Spellman. Despite the final result, he posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyquan Riddick, who put up four points and three steals.

Martin County is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Perquimans, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-20.

Looking ahead, Martin County will square off against Washington County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Washington County will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Martin County surely won't give up without a fight. Perquimans does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
