The Stanwood Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Mountlake Terrace Hawks at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Stanwood is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Stanwood took a serious blow against Ferndale, falling 34-7. While losing is never fun, Stanwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington football rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Ferndale is ranked 35th).
Meanwhile, Mountlake Terrace didn't have quite enough to beat Edmonds-Woodway on Friday and fell 13-10. Mountlake Terrace has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mountlake Terrace's loss came about despite a quality game from Zaveon Jones, who gained 194 total yards. Jones hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for eight straight games.
Even if they lost, Mountlake Terrace's defense sure didn't make it easy: Edmonds-Woodway's QB was sacked three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jones and his two sacks.
Stanwood's loss dropped their record down to 3-5, while Mountlake Terrace's bumped their own down to the opposite: 5-3.
Everything came up roses for Stanwood against Mountlake Terrace in their previous meeting back in November of 2015 as the squad secured a 41-12 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Stanwood since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
