Since the start of the 2021 season, Centennial has only lost one game and it was to Mater Dei 21-16 in the 2021 Southern Section semifinals. It was the closest game of the season for the Monarchs, who went on to finish 15-0 and win the MaxPreps National Championship.
Mater Dei is looking for its second straight win over a top 10 nationally ranked team after storming back from a 14-point second half deficit to beat No. 6 Bishop Gorman and leave Las Vegas with a 24-21 victory on Friday.
Down 21-7 in the third, junior quarterback
Elijah Brown tossed two of his three touchdowns in the second half to
Marcus Brown and
Marcus Harris to tie the game up. On defense a pair of four-star linebackers in sophomore
Nasir Wyatt and senior
Leviticus Su'a each came up with sacks to stall Bishop Gorman drives late in the game and keep the Gaels off the scoreboard.
Centennial took down Santiago (Corona, Calif.) and Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) by a combined score of 127-7 to start the season. Against Cathedral, Huskies junior running back
Cornell Hatcher Jr. went off for a 200-yard, four-touchdown rushing day.
