Ontonagon is on a five-game streak of home losses, Dollar Bay a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Ontonagon Gladiators will take on the Dollar Bay Bays at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Ontonagon suffered a rough 64-44 defeat at the hands of Lake Linden-Hubbell. While losing is never fun, Ontonagon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 552nd, while Lake Linden-Hubbell is ranked 72nd).
Meanwhile, Dollar Bay lost to Wright on the road by a decisive 43-29 margin on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Dollar Bay in their matchups with Wright: they've now lost three in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Kiera Isaacson, who scored four points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Adelyn Swain, who scored four points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Ontonagon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Dollar Bay, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
Ontonagon strolled past Dollar Bay in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a score of 58-43. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Dollar Bay's Ashlea Datto, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 2 assists. Now that she won't be playing on Monday, will it be that much easier for Ontonagon to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
