Kalama is 0-4 against Woodland since March of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Chinooks will welcome the Beavers at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Woodland will be up against a hot Kalama squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went the Chinooks' way against Castle Rock on Thursday as they made off with a 20-2 win. The game marked the Chinooks' most dominant victory of the season.
Katelynne Jones made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Kalama got a massive performance out of Ada Schlangen, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Colbie Manninen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Kalama kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Woodland got themselves on the board against Washougal on Wednesday, but Washougal never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 23-0 margin over the Panthers. The win was nothing new for the Beavers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Like Kalama, Woodland also got a great game from a two-way player: Gracelynn Huffman. Throwing, Huffman pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Addi Christensen pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. At the plate, Huffman went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI, while Christensen got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Madison Walker was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jolie Oathes, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Kalama's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Woodland, their victory bumped their record up to 13-7.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kalama hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. However, it's not like Woodland struggles in that department as they've averaged .384. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kalama might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Woodland when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Chinooks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
