Marshwood is 0-9 against Windham since May of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Hawks will welcome the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Marshwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Marshwood turned things around against Bonny Eagle on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Scots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hawks have posted since May 15, 2024.
Emily Hester made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Hester was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Zoe Carnes was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Laurali Shisler, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
Marshwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bonny Eagle only posted a batting average of .214.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Windham). They put the hurt on Noble with a sharp 18-3 win on Wednesday. The Eagles have beaten the Knights the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.
The team relied heavily on Yani Kostopoulos, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Lydia Marden was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.
Windham's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Marshwood, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Marshwood's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Hawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Windham, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Marshwood continue to outrun the ball?
Marshwood might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Windham in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Will the Hawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
