Bradford has gone a perfect 3-0 against Hawthorne recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. Bradford has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bradford managed to slip by Union County the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Bradford came up short against Union County last Friday, falling 22-16. Tornadoes fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Fightin' Tigers since last Friday.
Kallie Yowell and Addyson Hinds stepped up to the plate in a big way. Yowell fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances, while Hinds fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-5. Yowell continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amber Wynn, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Even though they lost, Bradford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .480 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Hawthorne's offense. They lost 16-0 to Bronson last Thursday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Bradford now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Hawthorne, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-4.
Hawthorne's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bradford has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Hawthorne, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given Bradford's sizable advantage in that area, Hawthorne will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bradford took their win against Hawthorne in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 18-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bradford since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
