The Cranston East Thunderbolts's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 56-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Johnston. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Cranston East of the 53-51 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2017.
Several Thunderbolts players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mya Jiminez, who scored 19 points. That was a full 38.8% of Cranston East's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jayna Gunderway, who scored 12 points.
Cranston East bumped their record down to 2-11 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road. As for Johnston, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.
Cranston East will head out on the road to take on Woonsocket at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Rhode Island (Woonsocket is ranked 49th, while Cranston East is ranked 42nd). As for Johnston, they will be playing at home against Davies Career & Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
