The Wellington-Napoleon Tigers can finally bid farewell to their ten-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They took down Hardin-Central 33-19. That's another feather in the cap for Wellington-Napoleon, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Wellington-Napoleon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Melanie Thornburg led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brilynn Zykan, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Hardin-Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Libby Fifer, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Fifer has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last nine times she's played.
Wellington-Napoleon's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-14. As for Hardin-Central, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
Wellington-Napoleon won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Saints at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Hardin-Central will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on February 12th.
