Union is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Lake is on an eight-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. It'll be a Battle of the Bugs Union Yellowjackets challenge Lake Hornets at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Union made easy work of J.Z. George and carried off a 12-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won four in a row.
Jackson Flake was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February.
In other pitching news, Ryder Furr looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Kooper Fultz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Austin Lee was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Lake got themselves on the board against Raleigh on Thursday, but Raleigh never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 12-0 victory.
The team relied heavily on Trey Gray, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last 17 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffin Boles, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Union's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Lake, their victory bumped their record up to 16-2.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Union has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .484. However, it's not like Lake struggles in that department as they've averaged .549. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Union suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Lake in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Union avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
