Walden Grove hasn't had much luck against Sahuarita recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Red Wolves will square off against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Walden Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Walden Grove had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Nogales on Friday. The Red Wolves never let the Apaches get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Red Wolves in their matchups with the Apaches: they've now won three in a row.
The team relied heavily on Hannah Montijo, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Isabel Higuera was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Walden Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Sahuarita faced Salpointe Catholic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Mustangs fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.
Jayd Villa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Sahuarita saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camila Vargas, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Walden Grove pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sahuarita, they moved to 19-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Both Walden Grove and Sahuarita just can't seem to miss. The Red Wolves have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Sahuarita struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
