The Trezevant Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 52-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Melrose. While losing is never fun, Trezevant can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 277th, while Melrose is ranked 62nd).
Melrose had a senior duo take command as Devin Sanders Jr dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds and William Carver scored nine points along with five assists and four steals. Sanders Jr is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Joe Williams, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Trezevant's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Melrose, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Trezevant will face off against Crosstown at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Crosstown is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Melrose, they will head out on the road to take on Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hamilton has insisted on making their lastfour contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-2 during that stretch of close contests.
