The Willcox Cowboys were the 67-47 winner over the Madison Highland Prep Heat when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Willcox took a serious blow against Madison Highland Prep on Wednesday, falling 68-36. Willcox has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Willcox still got an impressive performance from Caden Hooper, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for him. Jacob Kauffman was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Madison Highland Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brody McCown, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that McCown scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Marsh, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Willcox has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Madison Highland Prep, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.
Willcox will head out on the road to face off against Duncan at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Madison Highland Prep won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Rancho Solano Prep at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th. Rancho Solano Prep is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
