Kadin Schonauer made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Schonauer wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Parker Newburn, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Tuslaw's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Fairless on Thursday. The Mustangs walked away with a 7-4 win over Medina Christian Academy. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Landon Gannet was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Stevens, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
United's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Tuslaw, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. United has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tuslaw struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
